Our staff are chosen based not just on experience, but on their passion and their love of horses. In addition, all of our staff are BHS qualified, CRB checked and First Aid trained. Our team of extremely professional instructors will work with you to provide the riding experience that you can count on, whether this is a relaxed fun lesson, a focused technical lesson or a hack in our glorious countryside.
Pam Tombs
- Director / BHS instructor.
Pam has run Bursted for 47 years and has been responsible for training many BHS students and riders. Having been trained by Robert Hall a student of the Spanish riding school in Vienna, their principles have been passed on to clients and staff over the years. Although no longer instructing clients, Pam oversees all activities at Bursted.
Becky Tombs
- Director / BHS Qualified.
Becky is Pam Tombs daughter and has ridden from a very young age. Having been brought up at Bursted, her instruction of riders and training of horses follows the classical theme that continues at Bursted. Becky has been responsible for the training of all the riding school horses. Our instructors past and present compliment Becky on the training of school horses. Having competed successfully in all three disciplines Becky has now turned her hand to producing show horse
Freya Stockdale

Sonja
- Yard Manager / BHS Qualified
Sonja, manages the day to day running of the yard and also escorts hacks. Sonja first came to Bursted on work experience aged 15 and returned to train for her BHS exams. Having qualified, worked for a further few years and then left to enlarge her experience, later returning as head girl. Her successes in competitions are too many to mention, BHS hunter trials being her favourite culminating in becoming South East Champion. Head girls are the foundation of yard efficiency and Sonja’s high standards are an asset to Bursted.
Rosie
- BHS Instructor
Rosie trained at Bursted where she passed her exams, moving on to work at the Fulmer School of equitation, where Pam had also trained, fortunately returning to Bursted after having a family. Rosie has Bursted thinking and ethos through and through and therefore continues the theme of rider training that has helped to create Bursted’s reputation.
Jaie
- BHS Instructor
Jaie ran her own riding school prior to coming to Bursted. Jaie is a very experienced instructor/trainer and competition rider, dressage being her forte. Jaie regularly competes and produces first class results. Jaie is able to help all standards of riders and is happy to help with the training of horses. We are fortunate to have Jaie working at Bursted as it is not easy to find instructors of her calibre.
